Merry Christmas to all! It's a very white Christmas here, with 6-11 (non-internet) inches of the cold stuff on the ground. Wherever you are and however you are celebrating today, be careful and enjoy the moment!

Happiness

Today was a good day.

I was a little late to work today. I usually get there about 8:20 - 8:30 to set up the store, go to the bank, yadda yadda etc. We technically open at 10am, but usually don't have any orders till about 11:00. Which coincidentally was when I would be leaving work today to head to a meeting with all of the General Managers from Columbia, Kansas City, and Topeka; as well as our Operations Vice President. The main point of the meeting was to announce the realignment of our stores, and to find out who my new boss was going to be, since our old boss was moving to Albuquerqui, New Mexico. More on that in a bit.

Traffic was HORRIBLE this morning. I needed to fill up my gas tank, but the 7-11 by my house was full at every pump with three more cars waiting. No thanks. The QuikTrip on the way wasn't much better, but I was able to get in and out relatively quickly. What was normally a 30 minute drive to work took about 50 minutes this morning, so I pulled in about 8:50. The phone was ringing off the hook, and there was an online order glich that I had to take care of this morning, all of which resulted in the store not even starting to get set up by 10 till 10. Luckily, it doesn't take very long to set up. Of course, wouldn't you know, no sooner had I turned on the open sign (the oven wasn't even on yet) the first customer of the day called for a pick up order. For right then. Sure, no problem. I told him it would be 20 minutes (The oven only takes 4 and a half minutes to cook a pizza, but it would have to warm up first). He showed up in five minutes, but understood that the pizzas would not be ready yet. He had just missed breakfast. Whatever.

I took off at 11 to head to my meeting, dreading the news that would come. The rumor was that our new D.O. (my boss) was the guy coming from Columbia, who has the open mindedness and tollerance of Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh's would-be love child.

That's when the day really started going good. The meeting was supposed to go from 10 to 4. We were over by 2:30. Plus, While D.O. the Dick was coming to KC, he would not be in charge of my store. My new boss was still to be determined, but we would have an interim in the mean time. Even better, I got confirmation that I would be getting a bonus this month, and that it was about $400 more than I was expecting.

With the money due this Friday, but already burning a giant hole in my pocket, I headed over to Best Buy. I spent a good hour or so sizing up different laptops, games or flat screen TV's while reminding myself to reel it in, and wait till I had money in hand (Not to mention hopefully some good birthday spending money)

I head home to call Nate and see if he's awake. I am pumped, and it's a beautiful day outside, and I don't want to spend it inside. Does he want to go out and check out the new Barne's and Noble? Let's just say he's out of bed and dressed and ready to go before I can even hang up the phone!

The B&N at the mall is small(ish) but seems to have a lot of books that are hard to find closer to home. I pass on everything, but Nate finds a few books to his liking, and even manages to get one for free. Well, may as well go buy a new bottle of cologn for the price of the third book.

He asks me what I want for dinner: BD's Mongolian BBq, or TGiFridays. I haven't had Friday's in FOREVER so I choose there. On the way, we start talking about how some of our ex's have tried to have deep, meaningfull, heart-to-hearts while going to dinner, and both agree that it's pretty tacky to air your dirty laundry in a public restaurant.

Once there we are informed that we have two servers. One is a male: cute face and no Ass. The other is a female: Great ass, no face. They worked really well together, including this great nugget of an exchange.

Server 1: Where are the sides listed on the menu?
Server 2: Under "Sides"

Thank you captain obvious.

The table right behind Nate had apparently been channeling our thoughts because as soon as we quiet down, we hear:

Female: It's not you, it's me. I just think you need some time away.... yada yada yada.

She was breaking up with him. For seriously. At TGiFridays. For the entirity of our meal she went on about the reasons why he needs to break up with her and go "find himself". Dr. Phil would have barfed.

The night wraps up with a lot of gooiness at Crate and Barrel, a trip to Wal-mart for curtain rods, American Idol and baseball. All of which, I am too exhausted to write about right now. Besides, Nate is feeling "cuddly" :)

What a Meal!!

I got home from (yet another) pretty crappy day at work, and I was starving; as was nayters. Since neither of us could think of where we wanted to go, a quick flip through The Pitch was in order. Po's Dumpling Bar was the only thing that really stood out, so with an hour to go before they closed we headed out the door to partake of our dining experience.

While Nate had been there before, this was my first time at the upscale(ish) chinese restaurant. It took a couple of minutes to peruse the menu, because it all sounded so good. The dumplings sounded really good, but so did a majority of the rest of the entrees. I had to ask the waiter about one of the items:

Me: What is the Seafood Hot Pot?
Waiter: It's a bunch of seafood served in a very hot bowl of water... almost like a... Tea Kettle. It basically cooks at the table.
Me: Like Fondue?
Waiter: Yes! Very much like fondue.

As much as I love fondue (a la the Melting Pot... another review another time), a $15.95 bowl of hot, uncooked seafood wasn't exactly what I was up for. So Instead I got its close cousin: The seafood soup for $12.95; which Nate had also been eying (He went with honey glazed chicken instead). We also ordered an appetizer of 8 shrimp mini-dumplings.

A bowl of sauce (soy-ish) for the dumplings was brought out along with some vinagerette glazed cabbage was brought out in advance of the appetizer. I was so hungry that the cabbage (which by the way tasted great) was half gone by the time the dumplings came out. Not that it was slow service... far from it... I just couldn't wait much longer.

The shrimp dumplings were tender, perfectly cooked and gone way too fast. However, I will say that if the meal would have ended there I still would have been satisfied.

Our plates were efficiently cleared away, and our drinks stayed full the entire time. Then the entree's came out.

The first thing I noticed was Nates heaping plate of beautiful looking chicken bits, fried and covered in a honey glaze sauce. They laid it in front of him, and for a moment I was jelous. At least until they put my bowl of soup down in front of me.

I have never eaten soup with a fork before (or chopsticks). Of course, I never realized that having to eat soup with a fork was a good thing. Most of the time, when a menu says that it has Shrimp, Mussels, squid and scallops in it, you expect a couple of tiny portions of each. These were huge!!! And there was a lot of every type of seafood in the bowl. Not to mention all the noodles and veggies jammed in around said seafood. And the greatest touch? The shrimp had been de-tailed! I have never understood why any pasta or soup that has shrimp in it would still have the tail on it. It makes a meal incredibly difficult to eat.

The meal could have used just a pinch of pepper, but the more I got into the bowl, more pronounced the flavorings became. After thirty minutes of dining bliss, Nate was almost done with his chicken, and it looked like my bowl had just kept refilling itself. It was still three-quarters full... while I was completely full myself!

The ?owner? came over to ask how everything was. Fantastic! Great Food, Great Service, Great Portions... just Great!

For the first time in a long time, I felt that I went to a nice restaurant and actually got what I paid for. Po's may be a little to expensive to make it a constant dinner choice, but If every visit is like this, I will look for ANY excuse to head back there... and quick!

Where do they stand?

I came across an interesting story in the Kansas City Star this morning. I know this will tick some people off on the way Obama isn't more supportive of gay rights, but he is the most supportive of any politician running for high office that we have ever seen in a general election.

From the article by David Crary of the AP:

"Both presidential candidates say they oppose same-sex marriage, although Obama adds that his personal beliefs do not translate into support for banning it. And unlike McCain, Obama has declared his support for civil unions that grant marriage-like rights to gay and lesbian couples.

"McCain, while asserting it's an issue for states to decide, has endorsed the proposed bans on this year's ballots and has not advocated for federal recognition of the various same-sex partnerships now legal in 10 states.

"In the past, McCain has voted against a federal ban on same-sex marriages, but in this campaign he's signaled he would back such a ban if federal judges sought to impose them on states that didn't want them."

By now, it should be obvious who has to win if we are to have any chance of getting/keeping our rights to love one another and be protected in our love. A "Palin/McCain" ticket would set us back considerably. Do we always have to take a giant step backwards every time we take a small shuffle forward?

I know everyone has a right to vote (or not vote) how they want. I just wanted to put some information out there. We as voters need to know what is going on. We as Americans need to know what is going on, and we as the demographic who are going to be effected most by this election need to know what is going on.

Getting Political (For a moment)

I'll admit it right now. McCain's vice-presidential pick, Sarah Palin, scares me. Not necissarily in the same way that a certain current vice president scares me (he-who-must-not-be-named), but more in the fact that she is probably the absolute smartest move that McCain could have made in this election. She is his polar opposite, yet alligned with much of his views.

He's old, she's young.
He's male, she's female (duh)
He's got the Washington experience, She's a Washington outsider.

On the issues: She is pro-gun, anti-gay, anti-abortion, pro-anwar drilling, for a (long term) plan to get out of Iraq, pro-education, fiscally responsible, and balanced on creationism/evolution.

She has had approval ratings in the 90's as Alaska's Governor

She's energetic, she's good looking, she's been in vogue, she's progressive yet conservative, and she seems to be a perfect mouth piece for the Republican party. And this scares the crap out of me. If not for her stance on Gay rights (That is, we should have none) and Arctic drilling, I could almost get behind her. I wanted McCain to select some crusty, uber-conservative, white male, or even Joe Lieberman, who if ever there was a flip-flopper, it would be him. But no. He had to go and make a sensible choice that my family is going to absolutely love. Unfortunately, so will a lot of the spurned Hilary Clinton voters.

This election season just got a lot more interesting.

Turnabout is fair play

After <strike>making</strike> asking nayters to do this survey on me, I get to turn it around and <strike>make an ass out of myself</strike> try it as well.

1. They are watching TV. What are they watching?
Pushing Daisies, Project Runway, or any of his <strike>years</strike> weeks worth of DVR backup.

2. You're out to eat. What kind of dressing do they get on their salad?
Something Sesame (And we ate at Sweet Tomatos, and we've had several salads at home (Okay, so like two or three)... how soon they forget)

3. What's one food this person doesn't like?
He'll try anything once, but he really doesn't like some kind of cheese (Asburgers? Oh wait, that's autism... It's one of those Euro-Germanic named cheeses).

4. You go out to the bar. He/she orders.....
A Microbrew

5. Where did he/she go to high school?
In Racine, WI (And there are five shawnee mission schools, and I reminded you This Morning that it was Northwest... North sucks!!) :P

6. What size shoe do they wear?
Smaller than you would think... 12ish, I think

7. If this person were to collect anything, it would be....
Porn

8. What is their favorite type of sandwich?
Turkey, or ham, or roast beef, or anything we are sharing in a living room picnic :)

9. This person could eat ______ everyday.
Jello shots?

10. Favorite cereal?
One of the half dozen or so brands in his cabinet.

11. This person wouldn't be caught dead wearing?
Capris

12. Favorite sports team?
I didn't know there were teams in poker

13. Who will he/she vote for?
He hasn't decided yet if he's voting for, or against, Obama.

14. What is their sign?
Very Leo

15. What is something you do that he/she wishes you didn't?
Comment on his drinking?

16. How many states has this person lived in?
2 I believe

17. What is his/her heritage?
Dutch possibly? They have lots of dutch in Wisconsin

18. You bake them a cake for their birthday. What kind do you bake?
Rum Cake?

19. Did he/she play sports in high school?
Sports? What are sports, he says.

20. This person could spend hours...
Clearing out his DVR

21. He/She wants a new...
Hairstyle probably... its about time according to his calander... after all, he has had this one since before his birthday party almost a month ago! :P

22. The CD I would probably find in their vehicle is...
He burns his own CD's... and it most definately would not be found in his vehicle

23. What can you do that will guarantee a laugh from him/her?
Tickle him hehehehe

24. Does he/she get along well with their family?
Not his brother, but he seems to get along real well with his mother (Hon, I think you need to read the question again)

25. If money wasn't an option, I would buy him/her...
whatever he wanted :)

(Re: The butch, furry, cute guy with 3 rings, 4 earings, a bracelet, a necklace, and a large watch, none of which could be described as "bling"; who had his cute little blonde fiance hanging all over him)

Me: I have never seen a straight white guy with so much jewelery.
nayters: Maybe he's confused about his ethnicity.

A couple minutes later, he colors up his chips, leaving them in a very phallic formation

Me: I don't think his ethnicity is all he's confused about.

It's bad enough to drive while talking on your cell phone.

Even worse still to drive while talking on your cell phone on the crowded midtown streets.

But talking on your cell phone while on the crowded midtown streets and needing a "handi-capable" license plate?!? Please just turn over your license and/or vehicle now!!

Quote of the Day

**At work in the middle of lunch rush... I have 20 pizzas to make and I'm by myself when a customer walks in.

Customer: You have flour all over your hat
Me: Yep
Customer: And all over your apron
Me:(Getting impatient): That's what happens when you work in a pizza place
Customer: We could call you the Pillsbury Dough Boy
Me: Oh. God. Please Don't
